CASH-IN-TRANSIT SERVICES FOR FRESNO CHAFFEE ZOO
Client Snapshot
- Client: Fresno Chaffee Zoo
- Industry: Zoo / accredited animal care and visitor attraction
- Facility size: 39 acres
- Annual visitor volume: 800,000–850,000 guests
- Cash collection points managed by OSS: 8–10 points (ticketing and exhibit experiences), varying by day of week and season.
- OSS partner since: June 2025
The Challenge
Before switching to OSS, Fresno Chaffee Zoo relied on a cash-in-transit vendor whose service had grown unreliable in ways that put both cash and reputation at risk. The zoo reported two recurring, serious problems:
- Missed and inconsistent pickups. The previous carrier frequently failed to arrive according to the pre-determined schedule — and on occasion didn’t show up at all.
- Mishandled cash in public view. On multiple occasions, staff witnessed cash bags being dropped by the vendor in public areas of the facility during transfer, without the courier appearing to notice the bag was missing.
The switch to OSS wasn’t originally driven by a search for a new carrier — it came about as part of a broader change in the zoo’s banking services provider, with OSS recommended as a preferred cash-in-transit partner during that transition.
OSS is professional, consistent, discreet, and friendly to work with.
The Switch & Solution
Since moving to OSS in June 2025, Fresno Chaffee Zoo has not experienced a single instance of a missed pickup or a misplaced deposit bag. The team attributes this directly to OSS’s handling procedures and quality control checks before ever leaving the zoo’s location that mitigates the handling issues the zoo had experienced with previous couriers.
Beyond the operational fix, the zoo highlighted a marked change in the day-to-day service experience:
- Consistent, familiar couriers service the site, rather than a rotating cast of unknown personnel.
- Responsive, courteous staff at every touchpoint.
- Proactive account management. OSS checks in to confirm satisfaction rather than waiting for problems to surface.
- Direct access to decision-makers, so any issue that does come up is resolved quickly and to the client’s satisfaction.
- Greater discretion during transfers. The visual footprint of the cash pickup process is now far less conspicuous to the general public than it was with the previous vendor — an important consideration for a high-traffic, family-oriented attraction.
